Empire Zoysia is a premium low maintenance, water efficient turf with lots of visual appeal. It thrives in our warmer climate and once established is durable and versatile.
It has been recognised that Empire Zoysia grows at a slower rate than other turf varieties. This means low invasion
in surrounding garden beds with less mowing and maintenance for you. In more temperate climates Empire Zoysia
will be dormant in the cooler months requiring minimal mowing in winter. Empire Zoysia's slower growth rate
combined with its deep root system means it requires regular feeding with Eco-Prime Red NPK fertiliser to help
it hold its colour while it is putting roots down.
The perfect landscape grass. Empire Zoysia is a great choice if you have children as it is soft and durable once established. Empire Zoysia can handle up to 40% shade in the garden.
Empire Zoysia is very adaptable to low water conditions because of the deep root system.

When establishing a new lawn, people often overlook the importance of a good quality soil. The right soil will give your lawn the best possible start and help to prevent nutrient deficiencies and water problems.
A great soil additive product we recommend using is Bentonite Clay. Bentonite is a natural clay product with no added chemicals, it provides long term benefits for water and fertiliser efficiency which saves you money and time. To have the best outcome Bentonite needs to be incorporated into your soil with organic matter like Humus.
Empire Zoysia has a reasonably slow growth rate and can take up to 12 months to fully establish. We recommend fertilising with Eco-Growth NPK Red every 6-8 weeks after installing for a period of 12 months.
Once established this is a hardy lawn, however this may take several months and traffic should be kept to a minimum during this time.
During the first 2 years of this turf being rolled out it requires more specific fertilising. We recommend Eco Prime NPK Red fertiliser because of the even ratio of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous. Phosphorus is vital in root growth of new turf and will aid in quicker establishment. Zoysia doesn’t tolerate frost particularly well, however you can combat this by setting your reticulation to come on just before sun up for a minute or two.
A reel mower will give your grass a much cleaner cut and a professional look, however using a rotary mower will also keep it tidy. Cut at regular intervals so it doesn't get too long and this will avoid scalping which can place the turf under stress.
Keep your blades sharp and never cut more than one third of the leaf at a time.
All grasses produce seed head and in Empire Zoysia it is purple. To reduce the appearance of seeding ensure that you mow regularly.
All lawns produce thatch as this is a natural by-product of healthy growth. Thatch will prevent water and nutrients from getting to the roots where they are needed. This can be removed through Verti-mowing and should be done at least once a year.
Please note that Empire Zoysia can take up to one year to establish and will require a regular application of fertiliser during this time.
For establishing or repairing of turf, the application should be 10kg per 50m2 of Eco-Prime NPK Red
For optimum health of your lawn it is recommended to fertilise at a maintenance rate of 10kg per 100m2 every 6-8 weeks for 12 months after installation and every 12 weeks there after.
Remember, always water thoroughly to activate the fertiliser and prevent any possible leaf burn.
