Super hot weather and drying winds dry out lawns and soil.

Keeping your lawn hydrated with adequate water will keep it alive and growing water-saving deep roots.

Catch cups are fantastic for checking how much water you are applying but also check the moisture in the soil under your lawn. That’s where the water needs to be for your roots to take it up.

If you have applied adequate water but your soil is not moist to 12cm apply a good wetting agent.

Look for the signs of dehydration in your lawns leaf and if you see them handwater as soon as possible to halt and reverse the damage.

TURF SUPPLY UPDATE 2023

Kikuyu, wintergreen and Sir Walter soft leaf buffalo turf and stolons are available now.

In Perth autumn and winter are a great time to install a new lawn and save money..

  • Leaf growth will be slow but those all-important roots will grow and be ready to take off when warmer temperatures return.
  • Lower evaporation rates and free rain will dramatically reduce your watering costs when establishing a new lawn.
  • New roll-on turf is also a great way to “smother” winter weeds.

If you’re after the aesthetics, Wintergreen Couch is a good choice. It’s also cheap yet durable, so you’re not sacrificing much when you go for this variety. It’s for these reasons that it’s popular for lawns in Perth and WA.

bison

Bison Buffalo is the most shade-tolerant turf available. It’s one of the most low-maintenance lawn types, as well.

kuyu

Kikuyu is the type of grass you see on horse racing tracks, parks, and golf course fairways. As such, you can expect it to be hardy and durable.

zoysia

Zoysia grass, in general, is famous for its high resistance against heat, cold, and drought. It has rhizomes under and above ground, which helps its durability. It consumes less water than other lawn types for that reason.

ki

Ki-Couchi is the combination of Kikuyu and Couch. It’s around 90% Kikuyu and 10% of the other, giving you the best characteristics of both varieties. This makes for a durable, soft, and drought-resistant lawn.

Bought and laid 100sqm of Empire Zoysia in September and 10 weeks later its looking excellent. Install and maintenance instructions provided by Lovegrove were very good and are a must to follow. Have called them twice post install for further info regarding fertilising and weed control and both times was given good advice. Prices are reasonable too.

Hi Lovegrove, just had our grass delivered. Thank you! Wanted to say thank you to the lovely Italian man who was very helpful and bloody good at reversing that massive machinery carefully. Good job…now the laying of the grass begins.

Frequently Asked Questions about Perth Turf Supplies

Yes, we can help you. We have turf products available. Whether you need fertilisers, pest or weed control, soil conditioning or tools and equipment for hire. Click here to send us an enquiry 24/7 or call us 9453 6222.

Turf should not be laid on top of existing turf and new turf should not be overlapped. The turf underneath can cause the roots to rot and kill the turf. Laying turf over existing turf will also make it difficult to achieve a level finish.
You can walk on freshly laid turf but we recommend trying to do so for at least the first three weeks. The first root growth after planting turf is very fine and can be easily broken by even low levels of traffic. If you do walk on your lawn, the best option is to do so in thongs to minimise imprints.
Yes you can water your new turf too much. Overwatering can wash away fertiliser, cause soil compaction and cause the grass to grow too fast.
None of the turf varieties available in Perth grow in full shade. Four hours is the minimum amount of sunlight required by our Bison Soft Leaf Buffalo turf. This is the most shade tolerant turf we sell.
Vinegar sprayed on couch grass can burn and damage couch grass but couch grass grows from a stolon (underground rhizome).
The most common cause of a dying lawn is lack of water. If your lawn is showing signs of dehydration this is an act now situation. Fortunately, it is the leaf of the grass dying and not the whole plant. Applying enough water to wet the top 100mm of soil and keeping this soil wet with frequent waterings will rehydrate the grass and it will recover.
If your grass is invading into your garden bed our other areas you do not wish it to grow we recommend providing a physical border like kerbing or buried root barrier material to prevent the grass physically reaching the area. Some varieties of grass may also become invasive when overwatered and over fertilised. Try reducing your watering and fertilising and monitoring the results to achieve the right balance for your lawn. There are herbicides available that can control one grass variety in another grass variety and kill unwanted grass. Please call our friendly sales staff to discuss your situation for advice on which product is appropriate to your situation.

This does vary depending on the season, site preparation, the turf variety and if the turf has been kept wet but even in Winter your turf should have put down some roots after two weeks.
Roll-on turf is considered established at around 6 weeks provided sufficient root growth has been achieved.
This varies on a few different factors including the type and amount of turf required, the amount of site preparation required and how easily we can access the area to be turfed. We can provide an estimate by phone or email once we have this information and will do a site visit to provide a firm quote and any preparatory advice prior to starting.

You will need to measure the area that requires lawn and work out the total number of square metres (This is the length times the width). Generally if this a rectangular shape add a few extra rolls, but if you are dealing with curves or odd shapes you may need an extra 5% to allow for cuts.
