Weeds like Parramatta, Lovegrass, Crabgrass and Crow’s foot are quite common at this time of year.

Our recommendation to manage these weeds in your home lawn is to grab a pitchfork and remove them.  These weeds are very tolerant of hard, compacted soil so by grabbing a pitchfork to pry them out you are removing the whole weed and their seed heads (future weeds) plus alleviating the compaction in the soil.  This will give your lawn a better chance of competing them out in future.

These weeds can be spot sprayed but the dead weed left behind (particularly with Parramatta and Lovegrass) will take a long time to break down and contribute to thatch build up and soil hydrophobia (water repellency).

A strong, healthy lawn with deep roots is your lawn’s best defense against weeds.

If weeds are showing up in your lawn this can be an indication something is not quite right.
